Doha, April 17 (NationPress) The Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani engaged in discussions with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun regarding enhancing bilateral cooperation, with a focus on sectors such as energy, economy, and investment.
A statement released on Wednesday from the Qatari emir's administrative office highlighted that both parties expressed their dedication to fortifying their bilateral ties to promote mutual interests and ensure regional stability and development.
As reported by Lebanon's National News Agency, Aoun conveyed his appreciation for Qatar's unwavering support across various segments, while the emir reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to assist Lebanon in areas like electricity, energy, and the Lebanese Army.
In a message on his official X account, the Qatari emir referred to the meeting as a chance to reinforce the long-standing bond between their brotherly nations, characterized by cooperation, understanding, and mutual respect.
“Qatar is dedicated to supporting Lebanon in its pursuit of recovery, prosperity, and progress,” he stated.
A separate announcement from Lebanon's presidency noted that the emir emphasized Qatar’s eagerness to amplify its support following Aoun's election and the establishment of a new government, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
“We aspire to see Lebanon stable,” Sheikh Tamim was quoted as saying.
“Favorable conditions exist both internally and externally for this, and Qatar stands ready to provide whatever assistance Lebanon requires, especially in electricity, energy, and ongoing support for the Lebanese army.”
Aoun reiterated the Lebanese army's total dedication to executing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 in southern Lebanon. However, he pointed out that repeated Israeli violations and the continuing occupation were obstructing the army's full deployment in the region.
Aoun also mentioned that the army has persistently confiscated illegal weapons located in tunnels and hideouts and is engaged in ongoing discussions to ensure that all arms are placed under state control.
The leaders also touched on Lebanese-Syrian relations, emphasizing the significance of maintaining stability along their shared border.
Aoun updated the emir on recent cooperative efforts between the defense ministries of both nations and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s recent trip to Damascus.
The meeting concluded with a discussion on strategies to enhance Lebanese-Qatari relations across various sectors.
This marks the first visit of the Lebanese President to the Gulf nation since assuming office in January.
In February, Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani reiterated Qatar’s steadfast support for Lebanon’s reconstruction efforts during his meeting with Aoun in Beirut.
