Mumbai, Feb 3 (NationPress) Shiv Sena and BJP on Monday criticized the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for questioning the increase in the voter count and the results of the state Assembly elections.
Shiv Sena Parliamentary Party leader Shrikant Shinde has demanded a public apology from Rahul Gandhi, not just to the people of Maharashtra but to the entire nation, for his thoughtless remarks.
He stated that Rahul Gandhi must humbly acknowledge the voters' decision and cease his constant attempts to undermine the integrity of the country’s elections for temporary political advantage.
“The unfounded and desperate claims by Rahul Gandhi are merely an effort to erode India’s democratic principles – simply to cover up his party’s continuous electoral losses,” he declared.
Shinde emphasized that Maharashtra experienced its highest voter turnout in three decades, a historic affirmation of our democracy’s strength.
He noted that full credit should go to the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Maharashtra for their outstanding management to ensure a transparent and fair election.
“Rahul Gandhi’s outbursts cannot overshadow the will of the people. The significant defeat of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in the 2024 Assembly elections was not due to any external factors but resulted from their own arrogance, mismanagement, and ideological inconsistencies. The people of Maharashtra dismissed their hollow leadership, lack of vision, and failed governance. Instead of confronting the truth, the Congress party was too focused on securing Priyanka Gandhi’s seat in Wayanad, demonstrating once again that for them, family takes precedence over party, and party over the nation,” Shinde asserted.
Shinde further remarked that Rahul Gandhi’s consistent attacks on India’s electoral process, devoid of any evidence, are not only an affront to democracy but also an effort to tarnish our nation’s global image. This conduct is unworthy of the Leader of the Opposition and reflects political desperation.
“The mandate from Maharashtra is unequivocal. Farmers, youth, Dalits, tribals, and women have opted for stability instead of chaos, rejecting the opportunistic politics of the MVA and the covert agreements of the Shiv Sena UBT. Rather than lamenting, Rahul Gandhi and his associates should engage in serious self-reflection regarding why the people of Maharashtra have once again dismissed them,” Shinde stated.
In the meantime, Mumbai BJP chief and state IT minister Ashish Shelar remarked that Rahul Gandhi chose public theatrics, a display of self-defeat instead of self-reflection.
“The opposition, Rahul Gandhi, and the Congress are still grappling with the overwhelming rejection by voters in Maharashtra. What’s wrong with an increase in voter turnout? If more individuals voted for us, why should the opposition feel threatened? During the Lok Sabha elections, voters expressed frustration as their names mysteriously vanished from the voter list. Rahul Gandhi, did you secure your Lok Sabha victory by intentionally filtering voters’ names?” he queried.
Shelar contended that Rahul Gandhi’s statements are simply an example of the pot calling the kettle black.
“To foster disinterest in the government machinery and systems is the agenda of urban Naxalites. Why are you acting as their spokesperson? Our question to Rahul Gandhi: Did you win the Lok Sabha elections by ensuring that voters, who later participated in the Assembly elections, mysteriously vanished from the voter list?” he questioned.
