Mumbai, Aug 8 (NationPress) Sanjay Nirupam, spokesperson and deputy leader of the Shiv Sena, on Friday accused Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, of undermining the electoral process and disrespecting the electorate without providing any substantial evidence—an act that the nation will not accept.
Pointing fingers at Rahul Gandhi, Nirupam noted that this has been the Congress party's most dismal performance in the Maharashtra Assembly elections—securing merely 16 seats and not winning a single MLA in 21 districts.
"In light of this situation, instead of leveling unfounded accusations against the Election Commission, Congress should reflect on their own actions," he remarked.
He also criticized Gandhi for frequently altering his claims regarding the number of fraudulent voters—citing figures of four million, 7.2 million, and at times, 10 million—yet failing to provide a precise count.
"If he (Rahul Gandhi) is alleging voter fraud in Maharashtra while quoting data from Karnataka, he must first grasp the electoral framework. Voter lists are compiled by state authorities, which include the Chief Electoral Officer, District Magistrates, and booth-level officials. If fraud was present in Karnataka, where Congress governs, the onus lies with them," he added.
Nirupam stated, "Rahul Gandhi should recognize that the people of Karnataka entrusted Narendra Modi with a third term as Prime Minister and allowed Congress to form the government there."
The Shiv Sena spokesperson also pointed out that Eknath Shinde, the Shiv Sena chief and Deputy Chief Minister, has remarked that Rahul Gandhi is disrespecting Maharashtra's voters by discussing alleged fake voting.
"Women in Maharashtra benefited from the 'Ladli Bahna Yojana', yet Congress and its allies proposed to terminate it. Women expressed their discontent through their votes, leading to Congress's defeat in the recent assembly elections," he noted.
Nirupam further mocked Uddhav Thackeray, the Shiv Sena-UBT chief and former Chief Minister, saying that Rahul Gandhi invited Thackeray for dinner but made him sit at the back, revealing his true political standing.
He asked, "How much longer will you lower yourself for the desire for power?"
Nirupam recalled that during the era of the Hindutva icon Balasaheb Thackeray, Shiv Sena never approached anyone's doorstep or sat at the back of any meeting.
"Top national leaders used to visit Matoshree for discussions," he asserted.
Nirupam alleged: "Uddhav Thackeray forsook Balasaheb Thackeray's principles merely to ascend to the Chief Minister's position. Consequently, Congress no longer respects him and keeps him waiting at their doorstep."
