Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, March 6 (NationPress) In a significant announcement, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani declared during the Question Hour that only the names of elected public representatives should be displayed on plaques during the inauguration of government buildings, regardless of their political affiliations.
During the Question Hour on Thursday, Medical and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar addressed supplementary questions from MLA Shatrughan Gautam.
He emphasized that, according to official guidelines, plaques on government buildings should exclusively feature the names of elected officials, from Members of Parliament to Sarpanches.
Minister Khimsar warned that any violations of this directive would lead to consequences for the involved officials and staff.
He further informed the Assembly that the construction of the Maternal and Child Care Unit at Kekri District Hospital is nearing completion and is set for inauguration.
On the same day, he announced an investigation into the premature inauguration of the unit and the unauthorized naming on the plaques.
Additionally, he stated that any illegal names inscribed on plaques at other medical facilities throughout the state will be removed.
Minister Khimsar accused the previous Congress-led government of rushing to inaugurate the incomplete Maternal and Child Care Unit just three days before the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct on September 30, 2023.
He noted that names not belonging to elected representatives were inscribed on the plaque, and the department had not authorized the inauguration.
Earlier, in a written response to MLA Gautam's inquiry, the Minister mentioned that administrative approval amounting to Rs 3396.81 lakh was granted under the National Health Mission Programme Implementation Plan 2021–2022 for the construction of a 100-bed Maternal and Child Care Unit at Kekri District Hospital.
Following this approval, a tender was issued on August 17, 2021, to commence construction.
Copies of the tender and work order were presented in the House.
He added that the transfer process for the facility will commence once the construction of the Maternal and Child Health Unit is fully concluded.
As the building work is still ongoing, the Medical and Health Department has not officially inaugurated the facility.
Since the earlier inauguration lacked departmental approval or proper processes, no action is being contemplated against any officials or employees at this time.
