Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, April 10 (NationPress) Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma emphasized on Friday that ensuring strong law and order, driven by a strict "zero tolerance" policy against crime, remains a primary focus for the state administration.
He mandated that investigations of First Information Reports (FIRs) at police stations must be finalized within a defined timeframe, with accountability established for any lapses.
Sharma pointed out that timely justice and assistance for victims hinge on swift action, thus efforts should concentrate on crime prevention at the earliest stages.
During a high-level review meeting at the Police Headquarters, he evaluated the law and order status across the state. He directed that specific roles and responsibilities be allocated to police officials for enhanced accountability.
Furthermore, he instructed daily public hearings at the community level, alongside regular compilation of district-wise crime category reports and case resolutions.
Additionally, he mandated that Superintendents of Police regularly inspect police stations, while Inspectors General of Police review SP offices. Senior officials were also tasked with frequent field visits to various districts. Reinforcing the government's commitment, Sharma assured that all essential resources would be allocated to bolster the police force.
He ordered daily oversight of cybercrime cases and underscored the importance of continual engagement with victims.
The Chief Minister also called for specialized training for police staff regarding the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and effective strategies to combat cybercrime.
Moreover, he stressed the need for regularly updating electronic records pertaining to FIRs and charge sheets under the new legal framework.
Sharma directed officials to devise a comprehensive action plan to combat narcotics trafficking and maintain vigilant monitoring of border areas. He urged the dismantling of local gangs and organized crime networks.
Highlighting the broader responsibilities of law enforcement, Sharma stated that the police serve a vital role in society and that a robust law and order system is crucial for fostering an investment-friendly climate.
He encouraged police personnel to engage politely with the public and actively involve communities in enhancing policing initiatives. He also called for a greater involvement of women in Community Liaison Groups.
During the session, it was highlighted that Rajasthan ranks third nationally in implementing the three new criminal laws. The average time taken for investigations of rape and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences cases has notably decreased from 107 and 103 days in 2023 to 42 and 40 days, respectively.
Police officials reported an overall decline of 18.77 percent in total reported crimes from 2023 to 2025. Specific category decreases include: murder (25.68 percent), dacoity (47.26 percent), robbery (50.75 percent), kidnapping (12.24 percent), burglary and theft (33.75 percent), and crimes against women (9.94 percent).
Crimes targeting Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes have also diminished by 28.29 percent.
Officials further indicated that a Special Investigation Team is actively probing paper leaks and examination-related frauds, including optical mark recognition manipulation, the use of dummy candidates, counterfeit degrees, and fraudulent disability certificates.
Consequently, no paper leak incidents have been reported in recruitment exams throughout the current government's tenure.
In media discussions, Chief Minister Sharma reiterated that the government is firmly devoted to a zero-tolerance policy against crime.
He remarked that over the past 2.25 years, crime rates have significantly dropped throughout the state.
“Our goal is to instill confidence among citizens and establish a formidable deterrent against criminal activity,” he stated.
Among those present were Minister of State for Home Affairs Jawahar Singh Bedham, Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma, and senior officials from the Chief Minister’s Office, Home Department, and Rajasthan Police.
