Ram Temple construction to wrap by March 2027, says Nripendra Misra
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ram Temple Construction Committee Chairman Nripendra Misra on Thursday said that all construction work related to the temple in Ayodhya — including work within the temple premises and at the Ram Katha Museum — is expected to be completed by March 2027. Misra made the announcement after an initial review of the project's progress.
Key Developments
Speaking to reporters in Ayodhya, Misra said the construction within the temple premises itself is on track to be finished by September 30. He added that after October 30, personnel from contractors Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Tata will withdraw from the site. Following their departure, only two works will remain ongoing: the auditorium, being executed by the State Construction Corporation, and the museum.
'An initial review was conducted yesterday. One conclusion that has emerged is that the construction work within the temple premises will be completed by September 30. After October 30, the employees of Larsen & Toubro and Tata, will leave from here. Only the auditorium work, being carried out by the State Construction Corporation, and the museum work will continue. All these works are expected to be completed by March 2027,' Misra said.
The Museum: The Biggest Challenge
Misra described the Ram Katha Museum as the 'biggest challenge' in the remaining construction timeline. The museum's complexity stems from the need to integrate advanced audiovisual technology with a scripted narrative across 20 galleries.
He cited Gallery No. 7 as an example — it will use immersive technology to offer devotees a virtual 'darshan' of the smaller temples within the temple complex. Gallery No. 17 presents a separate challenge: it will depict the rivers that Lord Ram crossed during his exile, along with the messages he conveyed along those routes.
'Efforts are being made to present this appropriately,' Misra said, adding that the technology solution will be determined individually for each gallery.
IIT Chennai's Role in Innovation
Experts from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Chennai are reportedly working on the technological innovations required for the museum's galleries. Misra expressed hope that devotees will be permitted to visit the museum after February–March 2027.
He described the technology being deployed as 'advanced and immersive', designed to give visitors a 'divine darshan' experience within the museum setting.
Contractor Payments Under Review
Misra also indicated that payments to contractors from L&T, Tata, and other appointed sub-contractors are being reviewed in detail. The objective, he said, is to ensure that no construction-related work is left incomplete by the end of 2025.
With the temple's core construction nearing its final phase, all eyes will now be on the museum's technological execution — and whether the March 2027 deadline holds.
