New Delhi, Dec 1 (NationPress) As the Winter Session of Parliament commenced amidst a ruckus from the Opposition regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) issue, BJP MP Ravi Kishan humorously remarked on Monday that a “drama theatre group” has been formed and extended an invitation for the Opposition to join.

While speaking to IANS near Parliament, Ravi Kishan stated, “We have initiated a drama theatre group; the opposition should participate. They ought to come and perform; I will even furnish a compelling script. They should refrain from voicing their frustrations over electoral defeats within the House. I recommend the opposition take cues from Prime Minister Modi. We have learned from him, and it has transformed our lives.”

Supporting his comments, BJP MP Jagdambika Pal asserted that the opposition is deceiving the nation concerning the SIR.

Pal mentioned, “The nation is being misled. The Election Commission is overseeing the SIR. Despite a public notice in Bihar, the SIR has been turned into a contentious issue. No complaints have been lodged. Forms 6, 7, and 8 are being collected on a door-to-door basis by BLOs. Every booth has a BLO, along with a party BLA. Even so, they are encountering issues with SIR...The House is being prevented from functioning. The Prime Minister is urging, saying, 'Do not create drama here; engage in proper debate and policy discussions.'”

Earlier, Union Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan criticized the Opposition for hindering Parliamentary activities, deeming it a “flawed approach.”

The Winter Session of the Lok Sabha descended into chaos as the Opposition vociferously protested over alleged “vote chori” in the recent Bihar Assembly elections and the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls in various states and union territories, leading to successive adjournments. Consequently, the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day.

Paswan commented that the turmoil instigated by the Opposition in Parliament contradicts democratic traditions and is frowned upon by many within their ranks.

In an interview with IANS, Paswan remarked, “Dialogue is being obstructed, creating a hindrance that contradicts proper democratic conduct. You (Opposition) have MPs in your party, individuals who wish to express their thoughts, and many, if consulted, would not support the current obstructions.”

“During question hour, they ought to address their concerns, but creating disturbances in this manner violates democratic principles. If the sole aim of the opposition is to incite chaos, then this approach is fundamentally flawed,” he added.

The Lower House reconvened at noon following a brief and tumultuous session starting at 11 a.m. Almost immediately, Opposition MPs surged into the Well of the House, chanting fervent slogans of “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhor!” while displaying placards that demanded an urgent discussion on what they termed a “conspiracy to eliminate genuine voters” through the SIR exercise.

Deputy Speaker Sandhya Rai, who was overseeing the proceedings, consistently urged the members to return to their seats. She reassured the House that none of the more than 20 adjournment motion notices submitted by the Opposition had been dismissed by the Speaker, and that the issues could be addressed if the House was permitted to function.

Nevertheless, her pleas went ignored amidst the relentless uproar. As the chanting grew louder, an exasperated Deputy Speaker warned of the necessity to adjourn the House.

She inquired, “Why do you not wish to conduct the zero hour?” When calm was not restored, she ultimately stood and declared the adjournment until 2 p.m.

With both factions firmly entrenched— the Opposition insisting on not allowing the House to operate without a debate on what they allege to be electoral “malpractice,” and the treasury benches determined to proceed with legislative affairs— the Winter Session of 2025 seems poised for ongoing confrontations.
