RCB's Rajat Patidar & Jitesh Sharma Seek Blessings at Tirumala Temple Ahead of CSK Face-off
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tirupati, April 4 (NationPress) Captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Rajat Patidar, alongside wicketkeeper batter Jitesh Sharma, paid their respects at the revered Tirumala temple on Saturday, just before their upcoming match against the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on Sunday.
Situated on the Seshachalam Hills in Andhra Pradesh, the Venkateswara Temple at Tirumala is among the most esteemed shrines in Hinduism. It is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara—an avatar of Vishnu—and attracts over 24 million devotees each year.
Previously, Patidar and Jitesh had visited this holy site last year before another encounter with CSK, where RCB emerged victorious and secured their first title in IPL history.
Patidar, who recently embraced fatherhood, demonstrated impressive form in RCB's opening match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 28, where he batted at number 4 and scored 31 runs off just 12 balls, including two fours and three sixes. On the other hand, Jitesh, who was omitted from the Indian T20 World Cup 2026 squad, unfortunately, could not make an impact and was dismissed without scoring.
Despite Jitesh's early exit, RCB successfully chased down the impressive target of 202 runs in merely 15.4 overs, with Virat Kohli finishing strong at 69 not out.
Earlier in the match, Jacob Duffy, who stepped in for Josh Hazlewood (currently recovering), claimed three pivotal wickets during the powerplay, conceding only 22 runs in four overs. Romario Shepherd also contributed with three wickets as SRH posted a total of 201 runs but lost nine wickets in the process.
This victory positions the defending champions at number three in the IPL 2026 points table, boasting a solid net run rate of +2907. The Punjab Kings lead the table with two wins from two matches, while the Rajasthan Royals are in second place with one win and a net run rate of +4.171.
