Kolkata, Nov 8 (NationPress) In a significant move, the West Bengal government has appointed Richa Ghosh, the wicketkeeper-batter who played a pivotal role in India's triumph at the Women’s World Cup, as the new Deputy Superintendent (DSP) of police in the state.
The appointment letter was graciously presented by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during a vibrant ceremony held at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, which celebrated Ghosh’s achievements.
Additionally, Ghosh received the esteemed Banga Bhushan award from the state government. The Chief Minister also gifted her a golden bat and a golden ball on behalf of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
In recognition of her outstanding performance, CAB awarded her a cheque of Rs 34 lakhs. The event was graced by former Indian cricket captain and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.
Ganguly noted that the Rs 34 lakhs cheque was awarded to Ghosh in commemoration of her scoring 34 runs in the Women’s World Cup final. He praised her for taking on the tough challenge of batting at number six under high-pressure conditions.
“Richa’s innings was crucial as she faced fewer balls while maintaining a high asking rate. Her skillful play made a significant impact,” Ganguly remarked.
Both the Chief Minister and Ganguly expressed confidence that Richa would one day lead the Indian women’s cricket team as its captain.
Ghosh shared her insights on her preparation for the tournament, stating, “I always set a target during net practice. This strategy helps me thrive under pressure. I embrace challenges and aim to contribute to my team's victory.”
The Chief Minister expressed her aspiration to see Sourav Ganguly as the head of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in the future, citing his extensive experience as captain and administrator in cricket.
“He has led the Indian cricket team for many years and managed cricket affairs proficiently. I believe he will eventually achieve that position,” she stated.
