New Delhi, March 5 (NationPress) The government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the green light for the development of ropeway projects connecting Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib in Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath. This initiative is poised to significantly decrease travel time and enhance tourism opportunities. The announcement has been positively received by BJP leader and Member of Parliament Anil Baluni.

Anil Baluni expressed his gratitude to PM Modi for the decision to construct two ropeways between Govindghat and Hemkund Sahib.

He remarked: "This will facilitate travel, promote environmental sustainability, increase pilgrimage, and enhance the economy of Uttarakhand. Individuals from across India aspire to visit the Kedarnath temple, and now the journey will be more convenient and secure. A substantial influx of visitors is anticipated. Moreover, these ropeways will enable easy access for Sikhs traveling to Hemkund Sahib."

At present, the journey from Sonbhadra to Kedarnath requires eight to nine hours, but with the implementation of the new ropeways, this duration will be reduced to a mere 36 minutes.

Under PM Modi's leadership, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has sanctioned two ropeway projects in Uttarakhand, amounting to ₹6,811 crore. These projects will be executed under the Parvatmala initiative. The construction of these ropeways will facilitate easier access to both Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib.

Following the Cabinet meeting, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that a 12.9 km long ropeway from Sonprayag to Kedarnath will be constructed using the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, Transfer (DBFOT) model, with an estimated cost of ₹4,081.28 crore.

This ropeway will be developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, utilizing the cutting-edge Tri-Cable Detachable Gondola (3S) technology, capable of transporting 1,800 passengers in each direction every hour.

The system will accommodate up to 18,000 passengers daily.

It is crucial to highlight that the existing route to the Kedarnath Temple involves a strenuous 16-kilometer ascent from Gaurikund, which is undertaken on foot or by pony, palanquin, or helicopter.

The anticipated ropeway aims to enhance facilities for pilgrims visiting the temple and ensure consistent year-round connectivity between Sonprayag and Kedarnath.
