Ahmedabad, April 9 (NationPress) The Rajasthan Royals will be missing their leg-spin all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga as captain Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bowl first against the Gujarat Titans in Match 23 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium today.
The Gujarat Titans (GT) currently hold the second spot on the points table, while the Rajasthan Royals (RR) sit in seventh. A victory for RR in Ahmedabad would elevate them to a significant six-point cluster. Following the toss, Samson mentioned that Hasaranga is unavailable due to personal matters, with left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi stepping in for him in the playing XI.
RR will also see Tushar Deshpande returning after missing the last game against the Punjab Kings due to a minor injury. Bowling first is a strategic choice due to the conditions, as dew is expected. Every match in the IPL is crucial,” he stated.
“We appreciate the wins from our last two games and aim to carry that momentum forward. It’s fantastic to return. This is a relatively new team with several fresh faces; we retained six players. However, it’s a new squad that took time to blend. The pitch appears to be in excellent condition,” he added.
GT captain Shubman Gill indicated that his lineup remains unchanged and expressed a preference to bowl first as well. “Considering recent matches, dew has been a factor in the second innings, but we’ve previously batted first here. We focus on one game at a time and do not dwell on our winning streak,” he remarked.
“As long as our top order is performing, I’m satisfied. We’ve had a successful run at home, and we hope to maintain that momentum. The support from our fans has been incredible,” he noted.
Today’s match will take place on pitch number seven at the stadium, characterized by its red-soil surface, which offers bowlers good pace and bounce. One boundary measures 60 meters, while another is 71 meters, with the straight boundary stretching to 73 meters.
