Patna, Feb 24 (NationPress) At least seven individuals lost their lives in a tragic road accident near the Nura Bazaar bridge on the Masaurhi-Pitwans Road in Patna district. Following the incident, local residents, along with MLA Rekha Devi, blocked the road on Monday as a form of protest.
The accident took place late on Sunday night. MLA Rekha Devi and community members accused the administration of negligence and expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives, insisting that the state government provide compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of each victim.
Devi remarked, "This incident is heart-wrenching. So far, we have retrieved the bodies of seven individuals. We have been at the accident site since late last night and demand from the government that the dependents of all the deceased receive Rs 10 lakh in compensation."
She further proclaimed that the community would not allow the district administration to remove the bodies until their demands are addressed.
Residents accused the district administration of negligence during the rescue efforts. In response to the accident, they blocked the road, calling for compensation and the arrest of the truck driver responsible for the collision.
This blockade has led to the diversion of traffic to alternative routes, including Pitwans via the Masaurhi-Deoria-Tiskhora turn.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and have commenced rescue operations to assist the affected victims.
The collision involved a truck and an auto-rickshaw transporting laborers who were returning to Kharat village from Patna.
The impact caused both vehicles to veer into nearby water bodies, leading to the auto-rickshaw being submerged beneath the truck.
The victims have been identified as Matendra Bind (25), Vinay Bind (30), Umesh Bind (38), Ramesh Bind (52), Sushil Kumar, the tempo driver (35), Umesh Bind (30), and Suraj Thakur (20).
Upon receiving reports, police arrived at the scene and, with the aid of a JCB machine, retrieved the bodies.
Family members of the deceased and local residents gathered at the site, expressing their grief and frustration.
The victims, primarily from Doripar village, were daily wage laborers who traveled to Patna for work.
