Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the 11th edition of the INTERPOL Digital Forensics Expert Group (DFEG) Meeting at the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar on Monday, 14 July 2025, drawing representatives from 47 countries and senior law enforcement officials to deliberate on the frontiers of digital forensic investigation.
Key Dignitaries at the Inaugural
The opening ceremony will be attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and NFSU Vice-Chancellor Dr J.M. Vyas. The event marks the second time NFSU has hosted this prestigious international forum, having first done so in 2022.
Three New Centres of Excellence to Be Launched
Home Minister Shah will formally launch three Centres of Excellence at the university during the inauguration. The first is the Centre of Excellence in Financial Crime Investigation — an artificial intelligence-based data investigation facility designed to conduct 360-degree investigations into financial fraud. The second is the Centre of Excellence in Media Forensics, described as India's first such centre, offering professional training in celebrity interviews, podcasting, and forensic journalism. The third is the Centre of Excellence in Crime Scene Management, aimed at bridging conventional investigation methods with advanced forensic science technologies.
Asia's First Mobile Forensic Lab Unveiled
Shah will also inaugurate the 'Cyber Forensic Investigation Van', which NFSU describes as Asia's first advanced mobile forensic laboratory. Developed under the Ministry of Home Affairs by NFSU — an Institution of National Importance — the 'Make in India' vehicle is engineered to reach crime scenes and enable immediate recovery, analysis, and reporting of digital evidence in the field.
Global Industry Exhibition and International Competition
Running alongside the conference is an exhibition featuring more than 30 multinational companies working in digital forensics and cybersecurity. Participating firms include Google (United States), Cellebrite (Israel), Amped (Italy), Ditigo Global (United Kingdom), and MH Service (United Arab Emirates), showcasing their latest investigative technologies.
The programme continues on 15 July with the first International Investigation Competition and a summit themed 'AI-enabled Digital Forensic Investigation', organised by NFSU in collaboration with INTERPOL. The initiative is intended to bring together investigators, forensic professionals, academics, and global experts to advance innovation and excellence in criminal forensic science.
