Visakhapatnam, April 24 (NationPress) The Congress leader in Andhra Pradesh, Y.S. Sharmila, criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday for his inability to ensure the safety of innocent Indian citizens.

She mentioned that Modi, who refers to himself as chowkidar, has fallen short in his duties and is sending him a ‘bamboo stick’ with a plea to leverage all his authority to defend the national borders.

Sharmila spoke with reporters after paying tribute to J.S. Chandramouli, a retired bank employee who lost his life in the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

She accused the Prime Minister of focusing all his efforts on targeting opposition parties, as well as Muslims, Christian minorities, Dalits, and anyone who challenges the BJP.

Sharmila asserted that both Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have failed in their roles as chowkidars and called for their resignations.

She claimed they are not utilizing their powers, resources, and networks effectively to combat external threats.

“I want to convey a message to the Prime Minister. You claim to be a chowkidar, but we’re saying it’s high time you cease using your authority against opposition parties, Muslims, Christians, Dalits, and every dissenting voice. You should start utilizing your power for the nation's benefit and to protect our national borders,” she stated.

Sharmila visited the family of Chandramouli, one of the 26 tourists who perished in the terror attack, offering them her condolences.

She noted that the chowkidar seems preoccupied with employing the policing network and investigative agencies to intimidate innocent citizens, while terrorists roam freely, killing both civilians and members of the security forces. “Uri, Pulwama, and now Pahalgam, this government continues to let down its people,” she remarked.

The state Congress leader asserted that the entire nation believes the Pahalgam terror attack stems from a complete intelligence failure. “This is due to the fact that this Chowkidar government is misusing our central agencies to politically target opposition parties and dissenting voices within India instead of tackling external threats,” she added.

“Modi ji, this is the stick of a Chowkidaar. Your party has wielded it enough to intimidate its own citizens; now, with folded hands, we, the citizens, implore you to use it against the enemy,” she concluded.

Sharmila indicated that even retired Army officials have charged the Modi government with neglecting national security, leading to this heinous act. “I demand that this government guarantee the safety of Indian borders and protect the lives of innocent citizens instead of squandering its energy targeting the common people of this country,” she stated.
