Mumbai, July 1 (NationPress) The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, has taken significant steps to assist Marathi tourists who found themselves stranded in Uttarakhand due to severe rain and landslides.
He reached out to the government of Uttarakhand to request urgent support for these tourists affected by the natural calamities.
"The region known as Devbhoomi Uttarakhand has been experiencing relentless rainfall for several days. The resulting floods have severely impacted rivers, and the roads have been rendered impassable due to landslides. Approximately 150 Marathi tourists have been stuck in Jankichatti village near Yamunotri Dham since June 28. Given that landslides have obstructed their return routes, it may take up to eight days for conditions to improve. In response to their plea for help, I connected with Akash Jadhav, one of the stranded tourists, to understand their situation and assured him that we would provide all possible assistance," the Deputy Chief Minister shared during a media briefing at the ongoing monsoon session at Vidhan Bhavan.
Deputy CM Shinde also communicated with Parag Dhakate from the Uttarakhand Chief Minister's Office to urgently arrange food and essential supplies for the stranded travelers.
"The Uttarakhand government responded positively, indicating that they are working to restore the roads swiftly and provide necessary help to the stranded tourists. They assured us that efforts are underway to ensure the safe return of these tourists to Maharashtra at the earliest," he concluded.
