New Delhi, April 8 (NationPress) The five-day National Roller Skating Championship for both Men and Women concluded at the Leisure Valley Skating Ring in Ludhiana, with Andhra Pradesh taking the lead as the top-performing state by securing 18 medals.
This event was organized by the Punjab chapter of Special Olympics Bharat as part of the preparations for the upcoming Special Olympics World Summer Games 2027. It also aimed to raise awareness and offer high-level opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Several distinguished guests attended the tournament, including Sanjeev Arora, a Member of Parliament from the Rajya Sabha, and Himanshu Jain, IAS, the Deputy Commissioner of Ludhiana.
With representation from 20 states, the competition featured 110 athletes—47 women and 63 men—competing in eight different events: 30m Straight, 30m Slalom, 100m, 300m, 500m, 1000m, Relay 2x200, and Relay 2x100. Approximately 60 coaches, volunteers, and support personnel were integral to the event's success.
Athletes from Andhra Pradesh showcased exceptional talent, earning 6 gold, 5 silver, and 7 bronze medals. Following them, Goa and Haryana each won 15 medals (Goa: 4 gold, 4 silver, 7 bronze; Haryana: 7 gold, 5 silver, 3 bronze), while Gujarat secured 14 medals (3 gold, 5 silver, 6 bronze).
