Bhopal, March 10 (NationPress) Nearly six Congress leaders sustained injuries when a stage gave way during a protest against the ruling BJP at Rangmahal Chowk in Bhopal on Monday. Among the injured were Dharmendra Singh Chouhan, the chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Congress farmer wing, and veteran party leader from Gwalior, Gulab Singh.

They were swiftly taken to a nearby hospital for medical care.

The protest was organized by the Opposition Congress on the inaugural day of the state Assembly's budget session. It began at Rangmahal Chowk, intending to culminate in a march to the Vidhan Sabha, covering a distance of 3 km.

However, as Congress leaders gathered on the stage to speak to the crowd, the structure unexpectedly collapsed, causing injuries to several party workers and leaders.

Police personnel, who were already present at the location, quickly transported the injured to the hospital via ambulances. Despite the incident, the protest continued, with Congress workers attempting to breach police barricades. Water cannons were deployed to disperse the demonstrators.

Earlier in the day, Congress MLAs, led by Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar, arrived at the Assembly premises wearing black attire over their faces and brandishing placards condemning the BJP government. Singhar indicated that the black clothing symbolized their protest against the BJP's indifference to public concerns and the alleged harassment of those who speak out.

“The Opposition demands a discussion on corruption, farmers' issues, and public welfare during the budget session. Yet, the BJP is evading these discussions. When Congress MLAs raised inquiries regarding corruption, they faced pressure to retract them,” Singhar asserted.

He further accused the BJP of protecting influential figures, including politicians and senior bureaucrats, implicated in corruption scandals. Singhar specifically pointed to the arrest of ex-RTO constable Saurabh Sharma and his associates, insisting that the names of all involved be revealed. “Why have Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and the BJP leadership remained silent? Investigating agencies have discovered the involvement of numerous BJP leaders and senior bureaucrats,” he added.
