Bhopal, Oct 18 (NationPress) The chief of the Madhya Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Hemant Khandelwal, accused the Congress opposition of engaging in theatrical antics concerning farmers' issues, emphasizing that the party neglected to implement vital beneficiary programs during its governance.
While addressing a 'Kisan Sammelan' event at Chief Minister Mohan Yadav's residence in Bhopal, Khandelwal remarked, “When Congress gains power, they resort to violence against farmers, reminiscent of the Multai incident in Betul district. The Congress leaders are merely staging a play to attract media attention.”
He claimed that both the central and state Congress leadership are trying to deceive the public.
Khandelwal noted that the Congress party never considered introducing welfare initiatives like Kisan Samman, Bhawantar, and PM Kisan Nidhi while they were in power in Madhya Pradesh.
In front of a sizable group of farmers linked with the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), the state BJP chief recalled the tragic Multai firing incident of 1998, where 18 farmers lost their lives while protesting for compensation after heavy rains and hailstorms devastated their crops.
His comments followed a protest by the state Congress president Jitu Patwari and party members outside the residence of former Chief Minister and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Bhopal just three days prior.
After the protest, Bhopal police filed a case against several Congress officials, including Patwari, for demonstrating outside Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s residence without necessary permissions. They were charged under Section 223 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sahita (BNS) at the TT Nagar police station in Bhopal.
Khandelwal further noted that the state BJP government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, is dedicated to empowering farmers through various welfare programs.
“Our government is committed to farmers, but it is equally essential to understand that merely increasing production, offering better support prices, and providing compensation for crop losses are not sufficient. The agricultural sector requires comprehensive reforms to secure economic progress for farmers,” he expressed.
The state BJP chief also highlighted the government’s efforts to elevate the Sanchi Milk brand to stand alongside prominent names like Amul.
“Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is consistently prioritizing this endeavor. One day, our Sanchi Milk brand will emerge as a national brand,” he concluded.
