Stalin Challenges BJP's 'Political Hunting' Ahead of 2026 Elections
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 23 (NationPress) DMK President and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. K. Stalin, stated on Monday that his party is fully equipped to confront any actions taken by central investigative bodies. He accused the BJP of exploiting institutions like the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Income Tax (I-T) Department, and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for their political gain.
During a speech at an event, Stalin claimed that the BJP engages in "political hunting" by using investigative agencies against opposition parties.
"If the BJP unleashes its agencies like the ED, I-T, and CBI against us, we are fully prepared to confront them," he emphasized, noting that these strategies reveal their political desperation.
The Chief Minister accused the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) of being "an alliance formed by threatening the corrupt".
He pointed out that several former Ministers from the AIADMK government had faced raids, with around ten still having ongoing cases with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC).
Stalin charged, "For the sake of the alliance, they are being shielded."
He also accused Governor R.N. Ravi of postponing the registration of FIRs against certain former Ministers for an extended period.
"While they inhibit action in such instances, they are now attempting to intimidate us with central agencies," he remarked.
Questioning the effectiveness of the ED, Stalin asked how many of the over 8,000 cases filed by the agency have resulted in actual convictions.
"Those who are facing corruption allegations are aligning with whom? The BJP is shamelessly using investigative agencies while dubbing their alliance as the NDA," he added.
Regarding the political scenario leading up to the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Stalin acknowledged the likelihood of a multi-cornered contest but dismissed concerns about its significance.
"There may indeed be a multi-cornered contest, but they are not strong enough," he remarked, evidently referring to the BJP and other emerging parties.
In response to inquiries about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visits to Tamil Nadu, Stalin stated he welcomes them.
"The Prime Minister should visit regularly. (Union Home Minister) Amit Shah should continue to come. This Governor should not be replaced. That is our primary campaign," he said with sarcasm.
On suggestions for him to lead the opposition INDIA bloc at a national level, Stalin referenced the late DMK patriarch and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, affirming his awareness of his own stature and intent to act accordingly.
