Chennai, Feb 9 (NationPress) Reinforcing its faith in Tamil Nadu's ‘Dravidian model of governance as a beacon for international investments, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin officially launched the Rs 9,000-crore Tata Motors-Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) passenger vehicle manufacturing facility located in Panapakkam village, Ranipet district. This event signifies a significant achievement in the State’s burgeoning automotive industry.
Stalin characterized the initiative as a testament to Tamil Nadu’s industrial prowess, stating that the State has consistently been a favored choice for top-tier manufacturing, owing to its skilled labor force, forward-thinking policies, and strong infrastructure.
He acknowledged the substantial contribution of the Tata Group to India's development and highlighted its enduring partnership with Tamil Nadu.
“The launch of operations at this cutting-edge facility bolsters our status as India's automobile hub and boosts investor confidence in the Dravidian model,” he remarked after initiating the first Range Rover Evoque produced at the new site.
Covering 470 acres, this modern facility combines advanced manufacturing technologies with a highly skilled workforce, aiming to produce premium vehicles for both national and international markets. Production is set to ramp up in phases over the next five to seven years, ultimately achieving a full capacity of 2.5 lakh vehicles annually.
In his keynote address, N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd, described the inauguration as a “noteworthy milestone” in the company’s quest for sustainable and future-ready manufacturing. He emphasized that this project strengthens Tata’s collaboration with Tamil Nadu, a region renowned for its industrial excellence, innovation, and inclusive growth.
The new facility is projected to create over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing opportunities for local suppliers and enhancing the ancillary ecosystem.
Officials indicated that the venture will also foster skill development and stimulate regional economic progress. Prior to the ceremony, Stalin visited the facility alongside Chandrasekaran.
Industries Minister T.R.B. Rajaa, Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru, Handlooms and Textiles Minister R. Gandhi, and Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam were in attendance.
With the Tata-JLR plant now operational, Tamil Nadu has welcomed another prestigious investment into its industrial landscape, solidifying its reputation as one of India’s foremost automotive manufacturing centers.
