Chennai, Dec 21 (NationPress) Coimbatore South MLA and senior BJP leader of Tamil Nadu, Vanathi Srinivasan, has vehemently condemned Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for what she describes as “religious bias” and “hypocrisy” in his treatment of festivals and religious sentiments within the state.
In a statement released on Sunday, Vanathi referred to Stalin's remarks made during a Christmas celebration on December 20 in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli. During the event, the Chief Minister allegedly claimed that his administration caters to the needs of all faiths impartially and carries out developmental projects that “upset certain factions who seek to disrupt the peace of Tamil Nadu.”
He also warned the public to be cautious of those who invoke religious sentiments for political gain. However, Vanathi challenged the CM’s assertion of impartiality, accusing him and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party of historically manipulating religious sentiments for their own political advantage.
While recognizing that Stalin participated in the Christmas event, she questioned his absence from significant Hindu celebrations such as Deepavali, Vinayaka Chaturthi, and Thaipusam. “He does not even offer greetings for Hindu festivals,” she claimed.
The BJP MLA further stated that the DMK's governance shows a systemic bias.
She criticized the Assembly Speaker for allegedly preventing discussions on these matters, labeling it as an “institutional endorsement of discrimination.”
In reference to Thaipusam, which occurs on February 1 next year, she challenged the Chief Minister to join the celebration of Lord Murugan, revered by many as a significant Tamil deity.
Vanathi also criticized the DMK administration of temples, asserting that renovation efforts are financed not by the government but through donations from devotees.
She accused the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department of soliciting bribes and hindering Hindu worshippers from performing traditional rituals like 'kumbhabhishekam' without authorization.
“These actions do not indicate equal treatment for all religions,” she said, adding that the DMK itself has contributed to the disruption of communal harmony.
She condemned the government for failing to comply with the Madras High Court’s order concerning the lighting of lamps during the Tirupparankunram Vilakku Kaala festival, accusing the ruling party of “intentional negligence.”
Vanathi concluded that instead of promoting the message of Jesus and peace at the Christmas event, the Chief Minister instigated religious discord. “By speaking in such a divisive manner, he has once again proven himself an adversary of Hindus,” she asserted, labeling his comments as “deeply reprehensible.”
