Surat, April 15 (NationPress) A newly-constructed bridge at Budia-Gabhani Junction on National Highway 53 in Surat, built at a cost of Rs 40 crore, is expected to be inaugurated on April 18, benefiting over one lakh commuters.

The inauguration is anticipated to be officiated by Union Jal Shakti Minister and Gujarat BJP President C. R. Patil.

The bridge, constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), serves to connect Palsana to Sachin through Hazira. This project is part of an initiative aimed at improving black spot areas along the highway.

Besides enhancing travel speed and comfort, it will promote fuel savings and reduce travel time, thus stimulating economic activity and facilitating logistics in the area.

As Surat undergoes rapid urban development, infrastructure projects like this are essential to meet the city’s increasing demands.

Alongside the Budia-Gabhani bridge, Surat is set to see the construction of two new flyovers designed to improve road safety and traffic management. The first will span 700 metres in length and 200 metres in width at the Dream City-Bhimpura stretch.

The second flyover, also measuring 700 metres, will be constructed at the Vesu-Abhava Junction. Both constructions aim to manage heavy traffic loads on essential roads, lessen accident risks, and ensure smoother urban mobility.

The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has proposed an unprecedented budget of Rs 10,004 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26, with a significant portion earmarked for infrastructure improvements.

Key projects include the construction of a new bridge at Budia-Gabhani Junction on National Highway 53, intended to ease traffic congestion for more than 1 lakh daily commuters.

Furthermore, SMC has approved the development of six additional flyover bridges at an estimated cost of Rs 380 crore, aimed at enhancing traffic flow and connectivity throughout the city.
