Chennai, Oct 13 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu Assembly is set to gather on Tuesday for a four-day session, as announced by Speaker M. Appavu on Monday.
After leading a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, which included members from both the treasury and opposition sides, the Speaker revealed that the session will commence with obituary references for those who have recently passed away. This includes the victims of the tragic Karur stampede, former Nagaland Governor L. Ganesan, veteran CPI leader Sudhakar Reddy, and senior IAS officer Beela.
On the first day, the assembly will also pass a condolence resolution to mourn the loss of Valparai MLA Amul Kandasamy before adjourning.
Following this, the assembly will reconvene on October 15, 16, and 17 to discuss demands for supplementary grants for the fiscal year 2025-26. Each session will commence at 9:30 a.m., starting with the Question Hour, followed by debates on the grants.
Speaker Appavu stated, “The discussions will span three days, and on the final day, the government will respond to the debate regarding the supplementary estimates for the financial year 2025-26.”
Officials indicated that this upcoming session, although brief, is anticipated to hold significant importance as it allows the government to seek legislative approval for additional spending proposals that have arisen during the financial year.
The opposition is expected to voice numerous concerns, including issues surrounding the Karur tragedy, rising prices, and law and order challenges.
This assembly meeting marks the first session following the Karur incident, which resulted in multiple casualties during an event hosted by Tamil superstar-turned-politician Vijay.
Strong exchanges between the treasury and opposition benches are likely as parties gear up for the approaching political season.
The Assembly Secretariat has ensured that all preparations are in place for the seamless execution of the session, which will be overseen by the Speaker and attended by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, his Cabinet members, and representatives from all political parties.
