Agartala, Feb 9 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha asserted on Monday that teachers serve as the backbone of society, playing an essential role in nurturing future leaders by providing not just education but also values and ensuring the mental and emotional well-being of students.
In his opening remarks at the three-day Regional School Leadership Workshop and Review Programme held at Pragya Bhavan, Saha emphasized that today’s learners will become the leaders of tomorrow, making it crucial for educators to take charge of their holistic growth along with academic learning.
The event is a collaborative effort between the National Centre for School Leadership (NCSL), the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) in New Delhi, and the School Leadership Academy managed by the state NCERT.
Addressing the attendees, Saha encouraged teachers to extend their impact beyond traditional classroom roles, contributing positively to the formation of a healthy and cohesive society.
“Creating a joyful educational atmosphere facilitates proper mental and emotional development in students. Each institution should reassess its methodologies, emphasizing mental health,” he articulated. “Education shouldn’t merely revolve around obtaining degrees; learning from society continuously is equally crucial.”
Holding additional portfolios in Elementary and Secondary Education, Saha noted that the new educational policy has been implemented to equip students for future challenges, helping them evolve into competent leaders.
Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he stated that educated youth represent the nation’s finest human resource and must be guided appropriately to construct a developed India.
“In addition to science-based education, students must remain connected to the rich culture, traditions, and heritage of the nation,” he added.
Saha further stressed the importance of teachers adapting to contemporary times and embracing modern teaching techniques.
The state government has initiated various programs to cater to the current and future needs of students, highlighting the necessity of diligent monitoring during their execution.
Referring to India's illustrious educational history, Saha remarked that the once-celebrated education system has suffered due to historical subjugation and foreign invasions, but reforms are underway to restore its former glory.
“The Prime Minister is actively working to revive this legacy, and the state government aims to be a partner in this mission by developing a timely, modern, and effective educational framework,” he stated.
