Patna, July 17 (NationPress) Bihar's Leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, has fiercely criticized the Bihar Police ADG (Headquarters and STF), Kundan Krishnan, for his controversial statement linking the increase in murders to the time farmers are inactive before the monsoon.
“Had the ADG made this comment earlier, it might have caused mass panic and people would have fled Bihar to safeguard their lives,” Tejashwi remarked, challenging the rationale behind connecting murder rates to farmers’ downtime in April, May, and June.
He further stated, “If the police were aware of a potential surge in murders during these months, they should have alerted the public to vacate Bihar and protect themselves. What sort of statement is this?”
ADG Kundan Krishnan, in light of the recent surge in crime in Bihar, including the shocking daylight murder in Paras Hospital in Patna, claimed, “Historically, murder occurrences tend to rise in April, May, and June until the monsoon starts, as most farmers have little work during this time. Once the rains commence, the farming community becomes busy, leading to a decline in crime.”
He also mentioned that, due to it being an election year, crime incidents are receiving heightened media scrutiny.
Prashant Kishor, chief of Jan Suraaj, also condemned the ADG for his peculiar assertion.
“If the ADG genuinely believes that farmers engage in criminal activities during their free time, it reveals the mindset of that officer and the government. This mindset is indicative of why the situation in Bihar is worsening daily,” Kishor asserted.
He questioned whether it was farmers who were responsible for the murder of a prisoner inside Paras Hospital, highlighting, “CCTV footage clearly shows individuals in jeans and shirts committing crimes openly. If the ADG perceives them as farmers sowing seeds, he may need to have his vision checked.”
Kishor called for the government to take action against those responsible for the decline in law and order, rather than scapegoating farmers and laborers for the rising crime.
These remarks come amidst growing alarm regarding law and order in Bihar, following a string of high-profile murders, including the assassination of prisoner Chandan Mishra inside Paras Hospital, which has provoked sharp political responses and public anxiety about security in the state.
