Patna, March 30 (NationPress) RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of being forced to resign from his MLC position due to pressure from the BJP, asserting that the decision was not made voluntarily.

In a statement to IANS, Tejashwi Yadav remarked, “This was an obligation stemming from BJP influence, rather than a choice of Nitish Kumar. Certain BJP operatives within JD(U) orchestrated this, validating our previous claims that they would not permit him to remain as Chief Minister, and that is precisely what is occurring now.”

He further criticized the government for misleading the populace regarding fundamental promises.

“They have misled the public by raising electricity tariffs. Power was already costly in Bihar, and now it is set to become even pricier. They assured Rs 2 lakh to every woman but only delivered Rs 10,000. They asserted that the remaining amount would follow the elections, yet even that commitment is now being violated,” he stated.

Furthermore, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari also condemned the BJP, claiming that the party has deceived numerous leaders, including Nitish Kumar.

Earlier today, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation from his Legislative Council membership, complying with constitutional requirements ahead of taking office as a Rajya Sabha member.

Nitish Kumar, elected to the Rajya Sabha on March 16, received his election certificate on the same day and is set to officially take the oath on April 10.

According to constitutional regulations, an individual elected to Parliament must resign from their current legislative role within 14 days; failing to do so results in the cancellation of their new membership.

In adherence to this rule, he tendered his resignation on March 30, with MLC Sanjay Gandhi submitting the resignation letter on Nitish Kumar's behalf.

This resignation signifies the conclusion of Nitish Kumar’s extensive association with the Bihar Legislative Council.

He initially became a member in 2006 and served four consecutive terms: 2006-2012, 2012-2018, 2018-2024, and 2024 onwards—before his resignation.

Since taking office as Chief Minister in November 2005, Nitish Kumar has consistently maintained his role through membership in the Legislative Council, rather than challenging Assembly elections.

Although he was previously elected as an MLA from Harnaut in 1985 and has served in the Lok Sabha, his tenure as Chief Minister has primarily been rooted in the Upper House of the state legislature.

Point of View

The unfolding situation in Bihar showcases the intricate power dynamics between regional political leaders and national parties. Tejashwi Yadav's claims reflect a broader narrative of political maneuvering that could have significant consequences for governance in the state.
