Pappu Yadav Defends Nitish Kumar, Critiques BJP's Moves in Bihar
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, March 30 (NationPress) Independent MP Pappu Yadav expressed robust support for Bihar's Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, on Monday, emphasizing that there is no legal obligation for an immediate resignation. He also warned the BJP about actions that could potentially disrupt the public mandate in Bihar.
During a press conference in Patna, Yadav remarked that a Chief Minister can remain in office for up to six months without being a member of the legislative assembly, thereby dismissing the urgency surrounding the topic.
“Currently, there is no constitutional requirement for immediate resignation. A Chief Minister can serve for six months even without legislative membership. The BJP appears anxious. How much more damage does the BJP want to inflict on Bihar? The state is already struggling; there's hardly anything left. I do not endorse this behavior,” he stated.
He further asserted, “Nitish Kumar will not let the people of Bihar down. The mandate has been given in the name of Nitish Kumar, and the Chief Minister ought to be from Janata Dal (United), as demanded by the people of Bihar.”
Yadav cautioned of potential political ramifications if the current situation worsens, suggesting that any deviation from the people's mandate could have repercussions for both JD(U) and the BJP.
“Should someone have orchestrated this scenario, and if Nitish Kumar resigns today and chooses to leave Bihar, then the Janata Dal (United) will inevitably face the consequences,” he warned.
Taking a sharper jab at the BJP, Yadav predicted that the ruling party at the Centre would encounter even more significant backlash in the future.
“In the coming days, the BJP will have to deal with severe consequences. They must ensure that under no circumstances is the Chief Minister not from JD(U). Only then can the public mandate be preserved; otherwise, issues will arise,” he cautioned.
These comments emerge amidst escalating political speculation in Bihar regarding leadership and alliance dynamics, with opposition voices accusing the BJP of attempting to destabilize the existing coalition. However, there has been no official signal of any imminent change in leadership from the ruling alliance.
Political analysts observe that Yadav’s remarks signify a broader anxiety within segments of Bihar’s political landscape concerning stability and adherence to electoral mandates, especially in a state recognized for its complex coalition politics and shifting alliances.
