Why Was Telangana BJP Chief Detained by Police in Hyderabad?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Feb 21 (NationPress) Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao was taken into custody by police on Sunday as he attempted to travel to Banswada town in Kamareddy district, a location that experienced a communal clash on Friday.
Ramchander Rao had been under house arrest since Saturday night but was intercepted by police when he tried to leave for Banswada.
Tension escalated at his residence in the Tarnaka area as his supporters attempted to confront the police. Law enforcement detained several demonstrators.
The BJP leader was transported to Bollarum Police Station.
Previously, Ramchander Rao informed the media of his intention to visit Kamareddy to show support for BJP MLA K. Venkata Ramana Reddy, who had reportedly been assaulted. He claimed that around 100 BJP workers were arrested during a shutdown called by Hindu organizations in Banswada.
In the wake of his arrest, he expressed that there exists an emergency in Telangana. “The Anti-Hindu, Muslim League Maoist Congress has detained me for advocating for the Hindus of Banswada and our karyakartas in Kamareddy,” he posted on X.
He had previously stated that in Congress-ruled Telangana, standing up for the Hindu victims of Banswada and voicing concerns for karyakartas in Kamareddy had seemingly become a “crime.”
“Let it be known, Congress is the New Muslim League, having sunk to new lows of appeasement. Its actions indicate a desire to surpass the most divisive political chapters in our history. If Congress believes that confining me will silence me or exempt it from accountability, it is gravely mistaken. I will steadfastly support our people, irrespective of the pressure,” he declared.
The clash in Banswada occurred on Friday evening when a youth objected to a devotional song being played in a supermarket, leading to an assault by supermarket employees. Subsequently, members from both communities engaged in stone pelting, resulting in injuries to two police officers.
In response to the disturbance, police increased their presence in the town to avert further conflicts.
Authorities have registered two cases and apprehended 12 individuals involved in the rioting.
