Hyderabad, June 10 (NationPress) The Telangana High Court has, on Tuesday, rejected a petition that contested the election of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader T. Harish Rao from the Siddipet Assembly constituency.
The court dismissed the plea, which aimed to declare Harish Rao's election invalid.
Filed by Congress leader Chakradhar Goud, the petition alleged that Harish Rao provided misleading information in his election affidavit.
Celebrating the High Court's ruling, the BRS asserted that it has undermined the ruling Congress’s efforts to target its leaders as part of a political vendetta.
The opposition party accused the Congress government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, of indulging in vindictive politics by filing numerous “illegal and baseless” cases against its members.
From the recent phone-tapping allegation to this election petition, all claims were dismissed by the court. Harish Rao and his party assert that these legal challenges are politically motivated and intended to suppress dissent.
The BRS noted that the judiciary has consistently ruled against such allegations, stating it has once again responded strongly to the Congress’s schemes.
Harish Rao expressed his steadfast belief in the legal system, highlighting that no number of frivolous cases would prevent him from scrutinizing the government’s shortcomings.
The BRS leader urged the Congress and Revanth Reddy to halt their vindictive politics and instead focus on delivering on the promises made to the people.
Harish Rao, who is the nephew of BRS President and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has represented the Siddipet constituency since 2004.
A loyal member of the party since its inception by Chandrasekhar Rao in 2001, he was elected from Siddipet for the seventh time in the 2023 elections.
In March, the Telangana High Court had annulled the First Information Report (FIR) lodged against Harish Rao in the phone tapping case, a complaint also filed by Goud, who accused Harish Rao of phone tapping during the BRS administration.
Harish Rao asserted that the police initiated an unlawful case in December 2024 without any substantial evidence or a proper investigation, labeling the case a purely political conspiracy aimed at harassing him for questioning the government.
