Will Telangana Police's Appeal Convince Remaining Maoists to Surrender?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Jan 21 (NationPress) The Telangana Police have made a heartfelt appeal to the remaining Maoists holding significant roles within the various CPI (Maoist) committees nationwide to surrender. Currently, 17 Maoists originating from Telangana are active across different states.
Emphasizing the message of 'no more conflict - love your village', the Telangana Police have urged these individuals to abandon their life underground and reintegrate into society.
Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy has pledged that they will receive rehabilitation as assured by the government.
The police have published a list of Maoists in key roles, detailing the rewards associated with their apprehension.
This list features four Central Committee Members of CPI (Maoist): Muppalla Lakshman Rao, also known as Ganapathi, who serves as both a Central Committee Member (CCM) and Politburo Member (PBM).
Another is Thippiri Tirupati, known as Devji, a CCM, PBM, and General Secretary of CPI (Maoist). Malla Raji Reddy, referred to as Sangram, is also a CCM, with each of these three having a reward of Rs 25 lakh.
Pusunuri Narahari, alias Santosh, is a CCM and member of the Eastern Regional Bureau (ERB), currently operating in Jharkhand.
Muppidi Sambayya, known as Sudarshan, is a member of the State Committee and serves as Divisional Secretary.
Additionally, Vartha Shekhar, alias Mangthu, is part of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) and oversees the Communication Wing. Jode Ratnabai, alias Sujatha, who is the spouse of Muppalla Lakshman Rao, is also a DKSZC Member and heads the Maad Divisional Committee, with all of them carrying a reward of Rs 20 lakh.
Other Maoists on the list include: Loketi Chander Rao, alias Prabhaka, a DKSZC Member and Secretary of the West Sub-Zonal Bureau; Bade Chokkarao, alias Damodar, a State Committee Member overseeing Military Affairs; Nakka Sushila, alias Rela, of the DCM level cadre; Jadi Pushpa, alias Rajeshwari, also a DCM cadre; and several others.
The Telangana Police are actively working to motivate these Maoists to surrender.
In an unprecedented event in 2025, a total of 576 Maoists surrendered to the Telangana Police, marking a significant milestone since the inception of the People's War (currently CPI-Maoist) in 1980.
Efforts for rehabilitation have been intensified for those who have surrendered but face challenges due to lack of identification. Basic necessities like Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and bank accounts are being provided to them.
The Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) of the Telangana Intelligence Department oversees all rehabilitation programs for the surrendered Maoists.
As part of their rehabilitation package, they receive residence certificates for their native villages and are enrolled for Aadhaar cards. Following this, PAN cards and bank accounts are established, into which the reward money is deposited.
Discussions are ongoing with local revenue and other department officials to allocate house plots to eligible individuals.
Moreover, several returnees to mainstream society due to health issues have received medical care in private hospitals.
