New Delhi, Jan 30 (NationPress) Congress leader Pramod Tiwari on Thursday vehemently condemned both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), branding their political performances as mere drama concerning the Yamuna water issue while ignoring significant matters impacting Delhi.
Tiwari's comments followed a series of political exchanges focused on the quality of water entering the Yamuna River from Haryana.
Kejriwal recently asserted that Haryana was releasing water tainted with ammonia into the Yamuna, thereby poisoning the river. This statement sparked a political uproar in the national capital.
Tiwari stressed, “Instead of engaging in such theatrics, they should concentrate on real challenges like the condition of the roads, the supply of clean drinking water, and resolving waterlogging issues in the city. They need to clarify why pollution is on the rise and why no new water treatment plants have been established since the tenure of former Delhi Chief Minister late Sheila Dikshit.”
Tiwari criticized both parties for their inability to tackle these urgent issues.
“Both the BJP and AAP must account for why pollution levels are escalating and why there has been no advancement in water treatment infrastructure. There have been no new plants since Sheila Dikshit’s administration,” Tiwari remarked.
Regarding the ongoing political turmoil concerning the Yamuna water, Tiwari mentioned a recent challenge posed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha had challenged Kejriwal to consume water from the Yamuna, adding that he would “meet him in the hospital afterwards.”
Tiwari also commented on the recent scandal involving a vehicle from Punjab discovered with cash, alcohol, and AAP materials. The BJP has claimed that funds and liquor from Punjab were being utilized in the Delhi elections.
“The Punjab government asserts that the number plate is counterfeit. Both parties are deceiving the public. They want to divert attention towards these distractions rather than confronting genuine issues,” Tiwari stated.
Earlier on Wednesday, Delhi Police opened an investigation after a vehicle marked “Punjab government” was found near Punjab Bhavan on Copernicus Marg, containing cash, liquor, and AAP pamphlets, an official reported.
In relation to the tragic stampede during the Maha Kumbh at the Sangam in Uttar Pradesh, which resulted in 30 fatalities, Tiwari held BJP leaders accountable for the disarray.
“The stampede at the Sangam was not a mere accident but a consequence of mismanagement. BJP ministers and leaders transformed it into a tourist attraction, leading to unnecessary chaos. It was evident from their behavior that many were more interested in taking selfies and enjoying a picnic rather than ensuring safety,” he concluded.
