Hyderabad, Jan 8 (NationPress) A festive birthday gathering turned into a heart-wrenching tragedy as four students lost their lives and another was left in critical condition when their SUV collided with a tree close to Hyderabad early Thursday morning, according to police reports.

The incident took place near Mirzapur in Mokila, located in Rangareddy district.

As per authorities, the group of friends was heading back to Hyderabad after celebrating the birthday of one of the deceased.

Among the deceased, three were pursuing their BBA at ICFAI Business School (IBS) in Mokila, while the fourth was a student at MGIT.

The victims have been identified as Surya Teja (20), Sri Nikhil (20), Rohit (18), and Sumeet (20). Notably, Sumeet was at the wheel during the accident, which coincidentally was his birthday.

Sumeet and Nikhil were in their third year of BBA at ICFAI Business School, Surya Teja was a second-year student, and Rohit attended MGIT.

The vehicle crashed into the tree at a high velocity, resulting in the immediate deaths of the four occupants, while the fifth, identified as Nakshatra, a third-year BBA student at IBS, was severely injured and taken to a hospital where her condition remains critical.

The SUV was extensively damaged in the accident. Authorities are investigating whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

The deceased individuals were transferred to a government hospital in Chevella for autopsy procedures. Police have opened a case and are continuing their investigation.
