Agartala, Dec 17 (NationPress) Tragically, at least three individuals lost their lives and four others sustained injuries when a chimney at a brick kiln collapsed on laborers in Tripura, according to officials.
A representative from the district administration reported that this unfortunate event occurred in Kamalpur, located in the northern part of Tripura's Dhalai district, while the brick kiln was operational.
Soon after the incident, teams from the Fire and Emergency Services and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), alongside local residents, recovered the deceased's bodies and provided medical assistance to the injured, who were transported to nearby hospitals.
Tripura's Chief Minister, Manik Saha, expressed his condolences to the families affected and wished for a quick recovery for the injured. In a post on his X account, he stated: “It has come to my attention that the chimney of ABC Brick Industry in Kamalpur collapsed unexpectedly, leading to the heartbreaking deaths of three individuals and injuries to four others. SDRF and police teams are on-site conducting rescue and relief efforts.”
“I extend my deepest sympathies to the grieving families and hope for a swift recovery for the injured,” Saha added.
The deceased have been identified as Subal Debnath (55), Pinku Shil (37), both from Tripura, and Anil Gautam (49), hailing from Uttar Pradesh. Among the four injured, two are from Jharkhand.
Three of the injured individuals have been transferred to the Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital in Agartala for enhanced medical care.
The owner of the brick kiln, Souvik Paul, along with his manager, has been detained by the police and is currently held at the Kamalpur Police Station. The Dhalai District Superintendent of Police, Mihir Lal Das, and local BJP MLA Manoj Kanti Deb visited the site to oversee rescue operations.
In a separate incident, the body of a 19-year-old student was found in the Manu River in the Unakoti district of northern Tripura on Wednesday, retrieved by Fire and Emergency Services personnel.
Officials reported that four youths had gone bathing in the Manu River on Tuesday. While three were rescued by local residents, the student who later perished was unaccounted for on Tuesday.
