Srinagar, Feb 17 (NationPress) Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal confidently stated that collaborative efforts will pave the way for transforming Jammu and Kashmir into a benchmark region for access to justice while enhancing the Tele-Law initiative.
During a regional workshop under the Tele-Law Initiative of the DISHA (Designing Innovative Solutions for Holistic Access to Justice) Scheme, Meghwal emphasized the necessity of bolstering access to justice through technology-driven services.
He urged that justice should reach all citizens, regardless of whether they reside in remote villages, mountainous terrains, or coastal regions.
He commended the unwavering dedication of the Chief Justice of the state High Court, Arun Palli, noting his extensive influence throughout the region.
Meghwal encouraged the organization of smaller, targeted workshops aimed at expanding the network of pro bono lawyers and actively engaged with advocates and students.
The workshop, held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), was part of the Department’s ongoing mission to strengthen access to justice through technology-enabled services and to facilitate informed discussions among key stakeholders, including judicial officers, advocates, administrators, students, and representatives from civil society, as per a statement.
Present at the event were Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Justice Arun Palli of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and the Secretary of Justice.
The program began with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp and a cultural performance of “Vande Mataram” by local artists, celebrating the 150th Anniversary of India’s National Song.
The Secretary of Justice highlighted the constitutional obligation under Articles 39A, 14, and 21, stressing the role of DISHA in providing accessible, affordable, and timely justice to citizens, especially in isolated and underserved areas.
A brief informational video was presented during the program to educate citizens about the functionality of the Tele-Law service and its role in facilitating seamless access to justice and timely pre-litigation legal counsel.
This video also emphasized the integration of Tele-Law with the Nyaya Bandhu program and the assistance provided by Nyaya Sahayaks, according to the statement.
