New Delhi, Feb 16 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu stated on Sunday that our nation will truly advance only when the tribal community flourishes.

While inaugurating the National Tribal Festival ‘Aadi Mahotsav’ in Delhi, the President noted that numerous effective measures have been implemented in the past decade for the comprehensive growth of the tribal population.

The Tribal Development Budget has seen a fivefold increase, reaching approximately ₹1.25 lakh crore. Additionally, the Tribal Welfare Budget has tripled to around ₹15,000 crore, she mentioned.

“Through the PM Janman Abhiyan, efforts are underway to assist nearly 28 lakh individuals from the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) community,” she stated.

“To amplify the success of the PM Janman Abhiyan and ensure that over 5 crore individuals from Janjatiya communities benefit from government programs, the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan was initiated on Gandhi Jayanti last year,” she added.

The President emphasized that the crafts, cuisine, attire, jewelry, medical traditions, household items, and sports of the tribal community are a valuable heritage of our country.

Moreover, they embody modernity and science as they reflect a natural synergy with nature and the principles of a sustainable lifestyle, she explained.

She mentioned that alongside enhancing pride in tribal identity, comprehensive measures are being undertaken to expedite the development of the tribal community.

The President expressed satisfaction at the significant strides being made towards the economic empowerment and employment of the tribal population.

Focusing on educational initiatives for tribal youth, she remarked: “It brings joy to know that about 1.25 lakh tribal children are receiving education through over 470 Eklavya Model Residential Schools across the country.”

She noted that in the past decade, 30 new medical colleges have been established in tribal-heavy regions.

The President announced that a national mission has been initiated to address specific health issues within the tribal community. This mission aims to eliminate sickle cell anemia by 2047.

The Aadi Mahotsav is being organized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs from February 16 to 24, 2025, at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, Delhi. This festival seeks to showcase the rich and diverse traditional culture of our country's tribal communities.
