Kolkata, April 8 (NationPress) The gathering of the Internal Disciplinary Committee of the Trinamool Congress, initially set for Tuesday to address the absence of MLAs during Assembly sessions, has been delayed indefinitely amid internal discord within the party.

The state Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, who leads this committee, notified all relevant parties about the meeting's postponement.

A member of the disciplinary committee and the chief whip of the Trinamool Congress’s legislative faction, Nirmal Ghosh, conveyed to journalists that the meeting has been delayed for now.

“A new date and time will be communicated shortly,” he stated.

Sources indicated that the postponement stemmed from an internal conflict involving four Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha members - Kalyan Banerjee, Kirti Azad, Mahua Moitra, and Saugata Roy.

“The discord between Kalyan Banerjee and Saugata Roy is concerning. It is likely that their differences contributed to the indefinite delay of the Disciplinary Committee meeting,” remarked a senior state cabinet member.

He further mentioned that the Disciplinary Committee meeting aimed to obtain explanations from 30 MLAs, including a state minister, regarding their absence on the final day of the Budget session in the Assembly on March 20.

The Internal Disciplinary Committee had pinpointed 30 MLAs, including Minister of State for Youth and Sports Affairs Department, Manoj Tiwari, who were absent from House proceedings on that date.

The Trinamool Congress had issued a whip mandating the presence of all MLAs on the last two days of the Budget session, March 19 and March 20. However, this directive did not apply to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
