Shillong, March 7 (NationPress) Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. He emphasized the need for community involvement in upholding civic discipline and maintaining cleanliness.

During the inauguration of the Nehru Ading Locality Beautification Project at Hawakhana in Tura, CM Sangma highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and urban amenities within the town.

"It is a pleasure to be here for the first time in my official capacity. Transformations are happening gradually in Tura, yet there is still much work ahead," stated Chief Minister Sangma while addressing local residents and community leaders at the event organized by the Nehru Ading Development and Welfare Committee.

He revealed that projects exceeding Rs 700 crore are underway across Tura to bolster urban infrastructure and stimulate development.

Under the Smart City Mission, CM Sangma mentioned that Rs 60 crore has been earmarked for the paving of internal roads in various localities throughout the town.

Additionally, he disclosed that Rs 15 crore has already been allocated in Phase-I for street lighting and beautification efforts, with another Rs 15 crore specifically set aside for enhancing Tura Bazar.

Moreover, the Chief Minister discussed the ongoing city beautification initiative, which includes the expansion of surveillance and lighting systems.

According to CM Sangma, approximately 350 CCTV cameras and nearly 500 street lights are being installed across the town.

"For Nehru Ading locality, four CCTV cameras and six street lights have already been set up," he stated.

He reiterated that infrastructure development alone cannot transform a city; the citizens must also engage in maintaining civic discipline.

Using Japan as an example, he urged the community to embrace responsible public behavior and cleanliness, encouraging residents to take pride in the improvements made in their area.

During the event, residents raised various concerns, including the necessity for a community hall, upgrades to school infrastructure, and issues related to drug activities in specific areas.
