Gandhinagar, April 3 (NationPress) In a significant operation, two individuals were apprehended with approximately 12 kilograms of the illegal drug ganja in the Mota Chiloda region of Gandhinagar, according to officials on Friday. The arrests were made by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Gujarat CID (Crime).

Following specific intelligence during their routine patrol, the ANTF team from Gandhinagar intercepted a government bus at Chiloda Circle, leading to the capture of two suspects linked to the illicit trafficking of ganja.

The detained individuals were identified as Viraj Solanki, aged 26, from Moti Bhagor in Dabhoda, and Aditya (also known as Adi) Baraiya, aged 22, of Chanakyapuri in Gandhinagar.

Authorities reported that a total of 11.94 kg of ganja, valued at Rs 5.97 lakh, was confiscated alongside two mobile phones valued at Rs 10,000, bringing the total estimated worth of the seized items to Rs 6.07 lakh.

The operation was led by Inspector N.R. Patel, supported by officers including K.M. Vadnagara, P.S. Zala, P.M. Chavda, and additional personnel along with a technical expert.

A case has been filed under Sections 8(C), 20(B)(2)(B), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The Chiloda police station will continue the investigation.

This seizure is part of a broader crackdown on narcotics in Gujarat. Earlier in February, authorities uncovered an extensive illegal cannabis plantation in Bhavnagar, seizing drugs worth over Rs 10.9 crore, including cannabis and opium. Additionally, in early March, law enforcement detected a significant urban distribution network in GIFT City, recovering hybrid ganja worth over Rs 26 lakh from a rented apartment. In another operation, the ANTF seized 5.177 kg of ganja in Sabarkantha district's Prantij area and arrested one suspect while further investigations are underway to uncover the broader supply network.

Point of View

This incident illustrates the persistent battle against drug trafficking in India. The swift action by law enforcement agencies like the ANTF underscores the government's commitment to tackling narcotics-related crimes and ensuring public safety.
