Synopsis
Key Takeaways
A woman was allegedly assaulted, stripped partially, and paraded through a village in Ujjain district, Madhya Pradesh, on 30 June 2025, in a disturbing incident that has led to the registration of a case against 11 people, including three women, under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). What Happened in Arniya Vena Village
According to police, the incident occurred around 9 am on 30 June in Arniya Vena village under the limits of Jharda Police Station. The woman alleged that she was inside a room at her in-laws' house when accused Sumer Singh, Kachru Singh, Badrilal, and several others allegedly broke open the door and forced their way in.
The accused allegedly dragged her out by her hair and arms to a location where other family members, including three women, were gathered. The complaint states that the accused then cut off her hair, tore her clothes, and allegedly forced her to wear a garland made of shoes and slippers before parading her through the village. The woman alleged she was left half-naked during the ordeal. Her husband was also allegedly assaulted at the same time.
Injuries and Threats Reported
According to police, the woman sustained injuries to her eye, cheek, head, and abdomen. Her husband suffered injuries to his face, chest, and abdomen. The couple also alleged they were threatened with death during the assault.
Background: Property Dispute Behind the Violence
Investigators found that the woman had previously been married in the same village. In 2023, she left her first husband and married another man from the village, after which the couple relocated to Indore. According to police, the woman had returned to her in-laws' house on 30 June to seek a share in the family property. An argument over the property claim allegedly escalated into the violent assault.

Jharda Police Station in-charge Anand Bhabor confirmed that Sumer Singh, Kachru Singh, and Badrilal have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. 'Sumer Singh, Kachru Singh and Badrilal have been arrested and sent to jail. Continuous raids are being carried out to arrest the remaining accused. Further investigation is underway,' Bhabor said.
