Washington, March 21 (NationPress) US President Donald Trump has indicated that his administration is contemplating a potential "winding down" of its military operations against Iran. He urged South Korea, China, Japan, and other nations to participate in efforts to secure the crucial Strait of Hormuz.

In a social media update on Friday (local time), Trump asserted that the United States is nearing its military objectives, which include the dismantling of Iran's missile capabilities, its defense industry, and its naval and aerial forces, while preventing its acquisition of nuclear weapons.

"We are approaching our goals as we consider reducing our extensive military efforts in the Middle East concerning the terrorist regime of Iran," Trump stated on Truth Social.

These comments emerged amid rising concerns over the economic fallout from the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran, which has led to increased oil prices and inflation expectations.

Trump emphasized the need for other nations that rely on the Strait of Hormuz to ensure its safety and security. The strait is a critical passage, accounting for about a fifth of the global oil supply, and has been effectively controlled by Iran during the ongoing US-Israeli airstrike campaign that began in late February, according to reports from Yonhap.

"The United States does not require it! If asked, we will assist these countries in their efforts regarding Hormuz, but it shouldn't be necessary once Iran's threat is neutralized," he remarked, adding that it would be a straightforward military operation for them.

Earlier in the day at the White House, Trump reiterated the necessity for South Korea, China, Japan, and other nations to engage in securing the Strait of Hormuz, given their dependence on this strategic waterway for energy imports.

Earlier this week, Trump noted that the US no longer depends on naval support from NATO countries or other allies, due to their apparent unwillingness to assist in keeping the strait open.

"We do not utilize the strait. It is crucial for Europe, Korea, Japan, China, and several others," he commented when asked if the US intends to escort merchant vessels through the strait, regardless of whether allies join.

"They will need to play a role in this matter," he added.

When questioned about whether he expects South Korea to support efforts to clear the strait, Trump noted the assistance the US has provided to the Asian nation.

"I have great affection for South Korea. We maintain a robust relationship with South Korea, where we have provided significant assistance," he expressed.
