Dehradun, Dec 18 (NationPress) Uttarakhand is on the verge of becoming the inaugural state in the nation to enforce the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that the UCC will commence in the state starting January 2025, revealing that all necessary arrangements have been finalized.
During a meeting on Wednesday, the Uttarakhand Investment and Infrastructure Development Board (UIIDB) passed a resolution concerning the implementation of the UCC.
Dhami also updated the public through X about the completion of the final preparations for the initiative.
He stated, "In a significant move towards establishing a fair and equitable Uttarakhand, we have resolved to implement the Uniform Civil Code from January 2025. Today, in the UIIDB meeting, essential directives were issued to officials regarding this matter," he shared on X.

A five-member expert committee was constituted, headed by retired judge Ranjana Prakash Desai.
Based on this committee's findings, the UCC Bill 2024 was approved by the State Legislative Assembly on February 7, 2024.
After receiving presidential assent, the notification for the bill was released on March 12, 2024.
In line with this, the regulations for the Uniform Civil Code, Uttarakhand 2024 Act have also been drafted.

He instructed officials to ensure that personnel receive adequate training and that all essential facilities are in place to uphold the Code's provisions.
Moreover, he highlighted the importance of enhancing public convenience by digitizing more services.
A dedicated portal and mobile application have been established for public ease.
Comprehensive services, including registration and appeals, will be accessible online.
"The UCC in Uttarakhand will offer a new trajectory for society, embodying the fundamental principles of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, and Sabka Vishwas. This legislation will pave new pathways for the empowerment of women and children in Devbhoomi," CM Dhami remarked.
