Jaipur, March 22 (NationPress) Rajasthan BJP legislator Vishvaraj Singh Mewar, a descendant of Rana Sanga, on Saturday called for stringent action against Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman, who alleged that the Rajput ruler was responsible for inviting Babur to India, which ultimately led to the establishment of Mughal rule.
Mewar conveyed his frustration via the X platform while sharing a video of the MP, stating: "Such individuals also make their way to Parliament. Figures like Maharana Sanga do not require any validation, but decisive action is necessary for making disparaging comments about a significant historical figure from our past. This undermines the dignity of the House as well," he remarked.
Suman ignited controversy by labeling the 16th-century Rajput king a traitor during a parliamentary session.
He asserted that Rana Sanga played a crucial role in facilitating Babur's entry into India. These comments were made amidst discussions regarding the operations of the Home Ministry in the Rajya Sabha.
The statement has provoked backlash, with BJP leaders condemning it. He noted, "It is frequently asserted by BJP leaders that Muslims possess the DNA of Babur. However, I would like to emphasize that Indian Muslims do not view Babur as their leader. In fact, it was Rana Sanga who invited him to defeat Ibrahim Lodi.
"If you argue that Muslims are descendants of Babur, then by that reasoning, you are also descendants of Rana Sanga - a traitor. We critique Babur, but not Rana Sanga."
Mewar challenged the "accuracy" of the statement.
"What he stated was incorrect, and the manner in which he expressed it was also inappropriate. The Rajya Sabha is meant to be the House of Elders, and a degree of maturity should be exhibited there," the BJP MLA expressed.
Former Vallabhnagar MLA and BJP leader Randhir Singh Bhinder has reacted strongly to the recent comments regarding Maharana Sanga, asserting: "We take pride in being descendants of Maharana Sanga."
"The whole of India acknowledges the sacrifices made by Maharana Sanga and his lineage to safeguard Hinduism. We do not require validation from those who lack an understanding of history."
