Lucknow, March 28 (NationPress) Following controversial comments made by Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Ramji Lal Suman about the 16th-century Rajput monarch Rana Sanga, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati has denounced the SP for its 'unscrupulous politics', asserting that it is unacceptable to insult any community for political advantage.
In a post shared on Thursday via social media platform X, she stated, 'The unscrupulous tactics employed by the SP, which involves using its Dalit leaders for political gain, is detrimental. Dalits must be vigilant against their strategies. The events that transpired in Agra are deeply concerning.'
'It is inappropriate for the SP to belittle any community to serve its own agenda. They foster a harmful narrative against one community while favoring another. Such actions jeopardize societal peace and unity, which is intolerable,' she continued on X.
Mayawati's comments came in response to SP MP Ramji Lal Suman's inflammatory statement labeling Rana Sanga a 'traitor' for supposedly inviting Babur, the Mughal dynasty's founder, to defeat Ibrahim Lodi.
In the aftermath of Suman's remarks, unrest erupted at his Agra residence on Wednesday, where unidentified assailants engaged in stone-pelting, shattered window panes, and vandalized parked vehicles.
Agra's Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sanjeev Tyagi reported that the public responded to Suman's statement by throwing stones, breaking windows, and damaging cars outside the MP's home.
'Members of the Karni Sena expressed their anger after Ramji Lal Suman's comments. They arrived at his residence, threw stones, and damaged property. Several individuals have been detained, and a thorough investigation is underway. Some police personnel were also injured during the incident,' added ACP Tyagi.
Rana Sanga, also referred to as Sangram Singh I, ruled Mewar from 1508 to 1528 and is celebrated for his valor and sacrifices.
Suman's comments have faced widespread backlash, with many demanding an apology and accountability.
SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav accused Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was present in the district during the unrest, of endorsing the violence.
'The incident involving Ramji Lal Suman is unfortunate and must be condemned. Suman, a Dalit MP with significant experience, was attacked in his home while the Chief Minister was in the district. This attack occurred with the Chief Minister's approval,' asserted Yadav.
