Jaipur, March 22 (NationPress) Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Saturday vehemently condemned the recent remarks made by Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Lal Suman concerning Rana Sanga.
He dismissed any attempts to compare Babur and Rana Sanga, asserting that such discussions lack any substance.
In an informal interaction with the media on Saturday, Shekhawat insisted that historians, even a millennium from now, will always recognize that Babur cannot be equated with Rana Sanga. He highlighted that Rana Sanga was pivotal in inspiring the quest for freedom and opposing foreign rule.
"He not only thwarted India's subjugation but also made significant contributions to preserving the nation's cultural legacy," Shekhawat remarked.
The minister further reprimanded the comments, saying: "Individuals with narrow minds and small hearts engage in such debates. There is no place for such discussions.
"Those who delve into India's history, not just today but for the next millennium, will never find grounds to compare Babur and Rana Sanga on the same level. Rana Sanga awakened the spirit of freedom. He not only safeguarded India from enslavement but also played a monumental role in preserving Indian culture. Such discussions are futile and stem from limited intellect," he continued.
Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman has sparked controversy after labeling the 16th-century Rajput king Rana Sanga as a "traitor" during a discussion in the Rajya Sabha regarding the operations of the Home Ministry.
He contended that Rana Sanga significantly contributed to bringing Mughal emperor Babur to India. Suman's comments have faced severe backlash from BJP leaders, who have condemned his assertions.
Addressing the BJP’s perspective on the historical lineage of Indian Muslims, he stated: “It is frequently claimed by BJP leaders that Muslims possess the DNA of Babur. However, Indian Muslims do not regard Babur as their leader. In reality, it was Rana Sanga who invited Babur to defeat Ibrahim Lodi. Thus, if you assert that Muslims are the descendants of Babur, you must also acknowledge that you descend from Rana Sanga -- a so-called traitor. We criticize Babur, but not Rana Sanga.
This statement has ignited a political firestorm, with BJP leaders calling for an apology, arguing that Rana Sanga was a revered warrior who resisted foreign domination.
