Ghazipur, Dec 23 (NationPress) The lives of artisans in the Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh are undergoing a remarkable transformation thanks to the Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana.
Beneficiaries of the scheme report receiving 10 days of specialized training along with a direct deposit of Rs 4,000 into their bank accounts by the government.
Sanju, a basket weaver from Ghazipur, expressed her gratitude: “We craft baskets and winnowing trays. Previously, we relied on knives and cutters and often had to rent machines for bamboo cutting. Now, with the Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana, we have received a toolkit that includes machines specifically for our craft. This is a significant advantage for us,” she shared.
She further noted that the training provided under this scheme enhanced their skills, teaching them valuable new techniques.
On the toolkit, she said, “We did not incur any expenses for it. The government not only credited us Rs 4,000 but also supplied us with the necessary equipment, which simplifies our tasks immensely.”
Praveen Kumar Maurya, an official from the District Industries Department, commented on the initiative: “The Vishwakarma scheme, introduced by the central government, offers 10 days of training. To date, 25 basket weavers have received these toolkits. Previously reliant on manual labor, they can now produce their crafts more efficiently and with greater quality. After their training, Rs 4,000 is deposited into their accounts.”
Another participant, Lakshmi, emphasized the toolkit's utility for basket making.
The primary aim of the Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana is to enhance the living conditions of artisans and handicraft workers by upgrading their skills and diversifying their product offerings.
This initiative aims to provide comprehensive support for artisans and craftspeople, focusing on boosting livelihoods in both rural and urban settings while promoting women’s empowerment.
