New Delhi, March 6 (NationPress) - The President of Youth Congress, Uday Bhanu Chib, announced on Friday that the organization is gearing up for a nationwide protest against the proposed trade agreement with the United States, stating that it poses a significant threat to Indian farmers and the agricultural sector.
In an interview with IANS, Chib emphasized that the Youth Congress is prepared to escalate its demonstrations, including a potential siege of Parliament if the trade deal is not rescinded.
"This is a moment for struggle. We need to take action. We must oppose the government's decisions. We are the comrades of the Youth Congress, the advocates of Rahul Gandhi," he declared.
Chib revealed that he had a discussion with Gandhi the previous day, describing him as a profound source of motivation for the Youth Congress members.
"Rahul serves as a beacon of hope for the Youth Congress and all of us. We discussed this critical issue yesterday," he stated.
Concerned about the implications of the proposed US trade deal, Chib argued that it could lead to adverse effects on the farming community and undermine India’s agricultural framework.
"The US trade deal is extremely detrimental. It poses a serious threat to our farmers, putting Indian agriculture at risk," he remarked.
Chib warned that the conditions for farmers could deteriorate in the coming years if the agreement is finalized.
"I firmly believe that in the next one to two years, the situation could become so dire that farmers may have no choice but to sell their lands," he added.
The Youth Congress leader asserted that the organization is set to initiate protests throughout the nation to contest the agreement.
"We must strive to halt this deal. The Youth Congress is devoted to this cause, and we will organize protests. We will lay siege to Parliament and conduct demonstrations across all states against the agreement imposed by the BJP under duress," he stated.
Chib further mentioned that Youth Congress members are ready to face arrests during these protests.
"We do not fear imprisonment. For the constitution and the citizens of our nation, we will voice our opposition to the challenges arising and the flawed policies being implemented by the BJP government, led by Modi. It is our duty, and we have committed ourselves to this cause," he affirmed.
Outlining the forthcoming actions, Chib indicated that protests would also be organized in the national capital while Parliament is in session.
“We will also stage demonstrations in Delhi. When Parliament is in session, we intend to lay siege to it as well. Our efforts will not cease until the trade deal is abandoned. We will maintain our fight under Rahul’s leadership,” he added.
Previously, Chib faced arrest during a shirtless protest conducted by Youth Congress members on February 20 at the India AI Impact Summit held at Bharat Mandapam.
Following court proceedings, he was granted bail, and the Delhi High Court reinstated the earlier bail order, enabling his release upon verification of his bail surety.
