YSRCP Urges NBDA and NCW to Act Against Jyothi's Offensive Remarks
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Amaravati, April 8 (NationPress) The YSR Congress Party has formally approached the News Broadcasters and Digital Association (NBDA) and the National Commission for Women (NCW), demanding prompt action against the Telugu media outlet Jyothi for allegedly airing derogatory and defamatory remarks against women.
In his complaint submitted to the NBDA, MLC and YSRCP State General Secretary, Lella Appi Reddy, expressed that the channel broadcasted harmful and unverified claims aimed at former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and the party itself. He emphasized that the reporting lacked journalistic integrity and was a calculated move to incite hatred and mislead the audience.
In a distinct appeal to the NCW, YSRCP Women Wing President Varudu Kalyani voiced profound concerns regarding the disparaging remarks made against women.
Both representatives highlighted that during a particular segment, the anchor employed deeply offensive language, referring to YSRCP supporters as “spineless,” and made disparaging comments that undermined women's dignity and self-respect.
According to YSRCP, the channel neglected to fact-check, offer balanced perspectives, or allow for responses, thereby breaching essential journalistic ethics and the Programme Code as stipulated under the Cable Television Networks Act.
The party raised alarms about the ongoing online presence of this content, which exacerbates its harmful effects and perpetuates misinformation.
YSRCP has called for stringent penalties against the channel, its anchor, editor, and management, alongside the removal of the defamatory content and a public apology. They urged both the NBDA and NCW to take action, reiterating the necessity for media accountability, the protection of dignity, and adherence to ethical norms.
In a press conference, Varudu Kalyani insisted on the immediate arrest of Managing Director Radhakrishna and demanded an unreserved apology to the women of Andhra Pradesh for his offensive statements.
She alleged that the comments were not random but rather part of a calculated scheme to tarnish the image of YSRCP leaders and distract the public from the corruption issues surrounding Amaravati, as well as the ongoing discourse about the proposed MAVIGUN model by Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
She stated that the support shown to Radhakrishna by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Minister Nara Lokesh indicates that these remarks were premeditated and politically driven.
As the populace begins to scrutinize the extensive corruption tied to Amaravati and discuss viable, cost-effective development alternatives through the Machilipatnam–Vijayawada–Guntur corridor (MAVIGUN), she claimed that a diversionary tactic was executed through Radhakrishna’s derogatory comments to shift attention.
She emphasized that YSRCP’s peaceful protests for an apology have been misrepresented as attacks, while those in power have failed to denounce the remarks and instead defended them, which is entirely unacceptable.
