Key Takeaways
Amaravati, April 6 (NationPress) The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has formally submitted a complaint to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting regarding a Telugu news channel accused of airing defamatory and derogatory material.
In a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Ministry, YSRCP MLC and general secretary Lella Appireddy requested prompt action against ABN Andhra Jyothi, including its anchor, editor, and management for allegedly disseminating misleading, unethical, and abusive content through both electronic and digital platforms.
Appireddy stated, “The broadcast is a blatant misuse of media freedom, featuring content that is false, unverified, and malicious, aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with the YSR Congress Party. This program does not exemplify fair journalism but instead presents a skewed narrative designed to incite hatred, mockery, and bias among viewers.”
The MLC highlighted the objectionable and defamatory language employed by the anchor when discussing YSR Congress Party members and their supporters.
According to the YSRCP, the anchor claimed that party supporters would “blindly trust” anything Jagan Mohan Reddy states, using language the party has characterized as both abusive and derogatory.
The broadcast allegedly includes repeated phrases depicting the party's leadership and members as lacking intelligence or rationality, referring to them as individuals devoid of intellect or wisdom, and labeling political stances as “insane” or “mad” proposals. Furthermore, the anchor purportedly portrayed the leadership as a collection of “mad individuals,” reflecting the reckless, abusive, and defamatory nature of the broadcast.
In addition, YSRCP state spokesperson Karumuri Venkata Reddy accused certain elements of the “yellow media,” particularly ABN Andhra Jyothi, of willfully spreading misinformation to distract the public from the increasing support for Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s MAVIGUN (Machilipatnam, Vijayawada, and Guntur) capital corridor initiative.
Reddy asserted that the MAVIGUN corridor is receiving widespread recognition as a feasible, cost-effective capital alternative, presenting significant infrastructure benefits, including access to ports, national highways, railway junctions, and proximity to an international airport.
He emphasized that while Amaravati would demand an enormous investment of around Rs 2 lakh crore for foundational infrastructure, the MAVIGUN region could be developed into a competitive urban center at a fraction of that cost, making it a promising growth engine, as supported by economic specialists.
