YSRCP Protests Continue Over Tirupati Laddu Ghee Supply Issue in Andhra Council
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Amaravati, Feb 23 (NationPress) The opposition party YSR Congress (YSRCP) has once again disrupted the proceedings of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council for the second consecutive week. They are demanding a thorough discussion regarding the supply of ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) by Indapur Dairy and Milk Products Limited, which they allege has connections to Heritage Foods, owned by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's family.
Following the same pattern as the previous week, YSRCP members proposed an adjournment motion on Monday, requesting the suspension of the scheduled agenda to address the Indapur-Heritage matter. Nonetheless, the Council Chairman, Koyye Moshenu Raju, dismissed their request.
In response, YSRCP members gathered at the well of the House and surrounded the podium, chanting slogans in support of their demands.
Despite the ongoing protests, the Chairman proceeded with the question hour. The Council was subsequently adjourned without any business being conducted due to the continued disruptions from the opposition.
The Chairman indicated that a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) would determine whether to discuss the contentious issue.
Since last week, the YSRCP has been trying to bring this matter to the forefront. The opposition party asserts that a Supreme Court-appointed SIT has clarified allegations surrounding the adulteration of ghee supplied to the TTD. They are pushing for a discussion on the alleged irregularities related to procurement processes, pricing, and the purported ties between Heritage Foods and Indapur Dairy.
Leader of the Opposition, Botsa Satyanarayana, claimed that the ghee, previously procured at approximately Rs 320 per kg, is now being sold at around Rs 700 per kg through Indapur Dairy. He indicated that this increase is due to the connections with Chandrababu Naidu's Heritage Foods, which he described as causing “a doubling of price and embezzlement of public funds.”
In the meantime, Minister for Human Resources Development Nara Lokesh stated that the details concerning the alleged adulteration of the Tirupati laddu would be presented in the Assembly on Tuesday.
Regarding the ongoing boycott of the Assembly by YSRCP MLAs, he emphasized that attending the Assembly is a fundamental responsibility of the MLAs.
Lokesh, who is the son of Chief Minister Naidu, accused the YSRCP of exploiting religious sentiments by protesting in the Legislature with images of God. He expressed that such actions are inappropriate.
Simultaneously, MLCs from the ruling coalition convened with Chairman Moshenu Raju, demanding action against YSRCP MLCs who protested in the Council last week while holding images of God. They asserted that MLCs who held pictures while wearing shoes should face suspension.
Members of TDP, Jana Sena, and BJP also urged the Chairman to ensure that the Council proceeds with its agenda without further delays.
