Mumbai, Aug 4 (NationPress) Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) announced an impressive 8% year-on-year (YoY) increase in cargo volumes for July, totaling 40.2 million metric tonnes (MMT). This growth was primarily driven by a remarkable 22% surge in container volumes, as detailed in the company’s operational performance update shared in a stock exchange filing.
From the beginning of the year until July, the firm managed 160.7 MMT of total cargo, reflecting a 10% increase from the same timeframe last year, with container volumes rising by 20%.
In the logistics sector, rail volumes climbed by 17% YoY to 60,940 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in July, while Gangavaram Port–Vizag Iron Ore Supply (GPWIS) cargo volumes dipped by 13% to 1.61 MMT.

Recently, APSEZ gained attention for launching the world’s first steel slag road at a private port.
This 1.1-kilometre sustainable road at Hazira Port in Surat links the Multi-Purpose Berth to the coal yard and is constructed using processed steel slag, a by-product of steel production.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research–Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) and the Union Ministry of Science and Technology, underscores the company’s dedication to green infrastructure and circular economy practices.
"Through this project, APSEZ aims to spearhead the transformation of India’s logistics industry, merging innovation, industrial ecology, and infrastructure resilience to foster national growth," the company stated.
